Volunteering with the Gleaners Community Food Bank

Troy Biddix

A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Troy Biddix is the lead tax partner for Deloitte Tax in Detroit, Michigan. Outside of his professional life, Troy Biddix is a supporter of many nonprofit initiatives, including Gleaners Community Food Bank (GCFB) of Southeastern Michigan.

Though GCFB is headquartered in Detroit, the nonprofit conducts operations through five distribution centers that provide food to more than 500 partners in the southeastern region of Michigan. These partners include shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, and other nonprofits. In a single year, GCFB collects and distributes almost 39 million pounds of food to those in need. To ready donations for distribution, the GCFB leverages nearly 150,000 hours of volunteer work annually, and the nonprofit is always recruiting volunteers to help accomplish this goal.

Though the duties vary based on location, common responsibilities for GCFB volunteers include the organization and packing of food drive bags, produce, and nonperishable food items. Individuals who are interested in donating their time to the food bank can access the organization’s website to select the distribution center where they would like to volunteer.
